A designer and painter, Mark Sheridan was born in Atlanta and studied at the Georgia School (now Institute) of Technology and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He lived and worked in Savannah before 1948, when he settled in nearby Ridgeland, South Carolina. During his career, Sheridan was an active, exhibiting member of the National Arts Club, Association of Georgia Artists, and Savannah Art Club. He created murals for the Atlanta Theatre and the DeSoto Beach Club on Tybee Island, Georgia, in addition to oil paintings and works on paper such as this.
